Rigac Cup 2015

Rigac Cup 2015: Results of the knife and axe throwing championship

At last! On the 26th of September 2015 the events of the Rigac Cup knife and axe throwing championship were held for the very first time in Alsómocsolád, Hungary, for the time being, in the traditional categories. The number of participants was unfortunately strongly shaped by the rainy, gloomy weather, as well as by the news of the migration on the southern border. However, three countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia) took part in the contest, with a total of 17 contestants, most of whom were men. Many of the contestants were travelling hundreds, the Russians even thousands of miles to attend the event.

The first foreign thrower already arrived on Tuesday evening, the others began to arrive around Friday noon, and immediately took possession of the five training target groups, specially built and set for the events. The additional 7 other target groups were reserved for the next day. Due to the clearly impending rain, finally even those who had been planning some camping chose the comfort of the local accommodation. Overcoming the natural linguistic difficulties, soon everyone had his/her own trustworthy interpreter. We tried to improve the atmosphere with a little bit ;) of brandy, and to settle the empty stomachs with a little bit ;) of goulash.

On Saturday morning, each competitor had to officially register for the competition, and after the mayor's official opening the practice session for the competition began, followed by the competition itself. Unfortunately, some of the training targets soon became unusable in the drizzling rain, so all the competition targets had to be used in parallel: as soon as a thrower has completed the current event, the arbiters immediately called the next competitor or sent the thrower currently present for the next event. So, instead of the originally planned 2 pm, the standard events could already be finished by around noon, and we could start with the complex events combining five distances. After the official award ceremony, the evening was dedicated to a hearty dinner.
